This tool is designed to help you understand these options and reflect on what may best fit your lifestyle, values, and needs. The final decision is made together with your healthcare team, who will guide you through the available treatment options.

To support this decision, clinical guidelines and international recommendations highlight the importance of a person-centered and shared decision-making approach1,2,3

This approach means working in partnership with your care team to set realistic, individualized goals that reflect your values and life priorities.1,2 It helps ensure your preferences guide decisions and keeps you informed, more confident, and empowered throughout your kidney care journey. How it works

There are three different types of values: feel free to select any that apply to you. By selecting the most important ones, you’ll receive tailored information about all treatment options: dialysis, transplantation, and conservative care.

Please note that it may be helpful to start with just a few values (up to three), as the following pages contain a lot of information.

On the next page, you can exclude therapies that are not of interest to you, or that your physician has already told you are not an option.

After selecting your values and therapies, you will move on to the main section. Here, you’ll see information explaining why a therapy may or may not be suitable for the value(s) you selected, based on your lifestyle.

On the following pages, you can also rate each therapy based on this information. Beneath each therapy, you’ll find star ratings that allow you to rate it from 0 to 5 stars.

The more feedback you provide, the more accurate and helpful your final results will be.

What matters to you?

Select the values that are most important to you. For each value you choose, you will be able to rate how well each treatment option fits your life. When you are finished, we will show you a summary.

Tip

Start with 3 or 4 of your top values. Each one will take about 5 minutes. You can add more at the end.
